The Beginning
Take refuge and arouse bodhichitta.
The Main Part
Meditate on the suffering of the asuras (demigods): Asuras possess great power and enjoy wealth similar to that of the gods. However, their lives are dominated by intense jealousy toward the gods. They are constantly enraged when they see the gods enjoy the fruits of the wish-fulfilling tree, while its roots are in their own realm.
This jealousy leads them to wage constant, futile wars against the gods. In these battles, they suffer from being wounded by the gods' superior weapons. Even when they are not fighting, their minds are never at peace because of their competitive and aggressive nature.
Asuras may have high status, but their minds are filled with misery. Therefore, resolve: I must let go of jealousy and competition, and practice contentment and loving-kindness.
The Ending
Dedicate all the merit of your practice to all sentient beings.
