The Beginning
Take refuge and arouse bodhichitta.
The Main Part
Meditate on other aspects of human sufferings:
Suffering of encountering what one does not want: We often have to face people we dislike, situations that are unpleasant, and calamities that we fear. We feel irritable, fearful, and distressed when we cannot avoid these things.
Suffering of separating from loved ones: We inevitably have to part with our parents, children, spouses, and friends through death or life's circumstances. The pain of separation is like a deep wound in our hearts.
Suffering of not getting what one wants: Even when we work hard, we may not achieve our goals, obtain the wealth we desire, or gain the recognition we seek. This leads to frustration, disappointment, and a sense of failure.
All these sufferings are inherent in the human condition. Therefore, resolve: I will not seek ultimate happiness in the fickle things of this world, but will strive for the lasting peace of liberation through Dharma practice.
The Ending
Dedicate all the merit of your practice to all sentient beings.
