The Main Part
Meditate on the common characteristics of an authentic teacher: An authentic teacher should have a disciplined mind through the practice of ethics, a calm mind through the practice of meditation, and a wise mind through the study of the Dharma. They should possess more knowledge and realization than their students.
They should be skillful in teaching and have the patience to guide their students. Most importantly, they should have great compassion and be free from any desire for personal gain. They should be someone who has followed their own teacher properly and received the pure lineage of the teachings.
Therefore, resolve: When I find a teacher who possesses these qualities, I will cherish them and follow their instructions with great devotion.
The Ending
Dedicate all the merit of your practice to all sentient beings.
