The Beginning
Take refuge and arouse bodhichitta.
The Main Part
Meditate: When I or others face sickness or the danger of death, I should not just rely on worldly means, but also seek the spiritual protection of the teacher and the Three Jewels. I can perform the practice of taking and giving (tonglen), taking the sickness and suffering of all beings upon myself and giving them my own health and happiness.
I can also recite mantras and prayers with the visualization of the teacher sending healing light. I should realize that sickness and death are opportunities to practice patience and renunciation, and that the ultimate cure for all suffering is the realization of the nature of mind.
Therefore, resolve: I will use every trial in my life as a way to deepen my practice and will always rely on the power of the teacher’s blessing.
The Ending
Dedicate all the merit of your practice to all sentient beings.
