77. Paramita of Generosity

Meditation Guide

The Beginning

Take refuge and arouse bodhicitta.

The Main Part

Meditate on the Three Types of Generosity:

  1. The Generosity of Material Giving: Give whatever you can (food, clothes, money) to those in need, without stinginess.
  2. The Generosity of Giving Protection from Fear: Save lives and protect the vulnerable from harm.
  3. The Generosity of Giving the Dharma: Teach the Dharma or share spiritual advice with others.

The essence of generosity is the intention to give. Even if you have nothing to give materially, you can mentally offer your body and virtues to all beings.

Resolve: I will practice the paramita of generosity in all its forms to bring all beings to enlightenment.

The Ending

Dedicate the merit of your practice to all sentient beings.
