The Beginning
Take refuge and arouse bodhichitta.
The Main Part
Meditate on the qualities of the four immeasurables: Immeasurable impartiality, immeasurable love, immeasurable compassion, and immeasurable joy are the core of the Mahayana path. They are called “immeasurable” because their object is the infinite number of sentient beings and their result is the infinite state of Buddhahood.
By practicing these four, one can overcome the four main afflictions: attachment, anger, indifference, and jealousy. They bring peace to the mind and create the conditions for genuine bodhichitta to arise. Each of them is interconnected and supports the others.
I should feel great joy that I have encountered these sublime teachings. Therefore, resolve: I will devote myself to the practice of the four immeasurables until they become natural and effortless in my mind.
The Ending
Dedicate all the merit of your practice to all sentient beings.
